Upcycled Tin Wall Vase Project

|

So sometimes you go out on field trips to find something for a specific project you have in mind and sometimes one finds you. Recently I saw a cute tin wall vase at a thrift store and since I didn’t really have a need for it, I passed it up. Unfortunately, it was one of those things where once you get home, you think to yourself “Crap, that would be so cute if I…I should have bought that!” So a few days later I went back. At first I didn’t see it so I asked someone and they had no idea what I was talking about. Bummer.  I took one more lap around and there, in the back of a pile on a side table peaking out from some other stuff, was my tin and it was only $2.

So I scooped it up and headed on my way. It had a really pretty scroll-y detail but needed a serious clean up and, of course, a good coat of chalk paint. So that’s what it got…

I thought about adding some burlap to the inside and wrapping it around the top but then then I found this key in my craft drawer and decided to do something a bit different with twine

It still didn’t feel like it had enough character so I sanded down a few spots and then I added a few bunches of cotton branches and here’s how it turned out…

You can find some of these accessories here: white pitcher, faux greenswhite weathered lantern

I really like it against the grey walls and with the white accessories in the dining room. You can see more of this space and my Spring Decor post here.

I think this tin wall vase project that “found me” turned out super cute.  I especially like that it only cost $2 since I already had the other stuff. I think it was definitely worth going back for.  There are a few other things I can think of that I wish I had purchased over the years but live and learn, right?  Is there something you wish you had gone back for and rescued? If so, I hope you find one again some day…or it finds you. 🙂

  1. I’m so glad you decided to go back and find this wonderful piece….things just happen that way, sometimes. It looks great in its coat of chalky and seems to be the perfect vessel for the cotton stems!
