50 Ideas for How to Decorate a Small Half Bathroom
If you have been thinking about giving your half bath a makeover or adding a half bathroom, here are over 50 ideas for how to decorate a small half bathroom for inspiration.
One of our next projects will be to give our downstairs half bath a makeover. It’s always been a bit on the boring side and we’ve had so many other projects that it just wasn’t the priority. I’ve been doing some research and looking for inspiration so I thought I would share what I found with you.
Add pretty wallpaper.
If you have been wanting to try wallpaper but didn’t want to take on an entire room in your home, try it out first in a small half bathroom. It’s not a huge commitment if you use peel and stick wallpaper because you can always change it if you would like to down the line. Plus, it’s fairly inexpensive in such a small space.
This black and white print is so elegant.
Statement-making wallpaper can be used on just the bottom half of the wall. I love this color combination of the brown/tans and blues.
For a more modern look, try geometric wallpaper.
Want to go moody? Use dark colors . Dark-colored wallpapers are a great way to add color and interest to half bath spaces.
You don’t need to do the whole bathroom but instead opt for an accent wall.
This wallpaper is a focal point and adds just a bit of color to the space.
Pick the perfect paint color.
One of the easiest ways decorate a small half bathroom is with paint. I know this seems out of order but always pick the paint after you choose your inspiration like the wallpaper. You’ll find way more paint colors (unlimited, really) to match your jumping off point and the color combinations are endless. It may be much harder to find a wallpaper or art to match a specific paint color.
Here, the color of the vanity matches the blue floral wallpaper perfectly. The combination with the gold is so pretty.
Want something a bit more subdued, go neutral. Ah, so calm. I love this vintage vibe.
Try wall decals.
Not up for a major project but want something a little smaller? Similar to the wallpaper, wall decals are temporary if you want them to be but can add so much personality to your space.
Hand paint your own details.
Whether you use a stencil or freehand, brush or paint pen, this may be a bit time consuming but is definitely inexpensive and you can get as creative as you want to be.
Update your lighting.
It’s always nice to have a window or two for natural light but if you don’t have one, great lighting is so important. Whether you choose a ceiling light, a light above the mirror or wall sconces, it’s an opportunity to make a statement.
These sconces are such a beautiful contrast to the wallpaper and the shape adds so much interest.
These gold sconces are an interesting shape and add a bit of bling to this half bathroom.
This barn light is great addition to this half bath. The black and brass combination is perfect match for the sink and faucet.
Make a statement with your sink.
If you’re redoing the bathroom, consider updating your sink. There are so many styles to choose from to fit your space, no matter how small that space may be.
If you’re really short on space, try a corner sink.
This bowl sink is the perfect fit for this small powder room.
For tighter spaces like in the tiniest room, what about using a half sink?

A pedestal sink is simply classic and, although leans toward a more transitional or even farmhouse style, can be glam too, like in the image below. In a very small bathroom, tuck baskets under the sink for storage space.
I love this bold color combination. If you’re going to decorate a small half bathroom, why not add a little bling?
This black and white is so timeless.
You can save even more room with wall-mounted faucets. I love the way these look! The sink is a perfect size and what a great place for hand towels.
Update your vanity.
The vanity is the essentially the centerpiece of the space so why not make a statement?
If you’re looking for a more modern look, try a bold color.
If you want to create something that is uniquely you, why not upcycle a piece of furniture into a vanity?

Decorative wall moulding
One of my favorite half bathroom decor ideas and really whole house decor ideas is wainscotting or beadboard. It can be relatively inexpensive and easy if you are using all 90 degree angles requires no complicated cuts.
This is such a great way to add character to the space.
Simple beadboard is always classic.

Add some interest with tiles.
A bold tile choice, whether floor tiles or on bathroom walls can make a statement in a smaller space.
Create a focal point with an accent wall.
If you really want to invest some time and money in the space, you can try a faux stone accent wall. This is a pretty big commitment, although if you like the look, you may be able to find wallpaper to create this look.
Try a wood wall.
Save a small part of the wall for wall art.
Art, especially thrifted or vintage art, is a great way to add personality to any space and if you’re going to decorate a small half bathroom, it should be on the list of things to do, too.
Add shelving to create a focal point.
A floating shelf or two are always great for storage and bathroom decor. I love the wood tone of these shelves. It’s the perfect match with the wallpaper and a great contrast to the dark paint.
These shelves are tucked into this space perfectly in this small half bathroom and the wood adds a bit of warmth in the neutral space.
Add a beautiful mirror.
Stylish mirrors can go a long way to add personality to your space.
Don’t forget the accessories.
You can either keep it super simple or add in accessories to match your style.
Such a luxurious powder room…
This bathroom is a combination of many of the things mentioned above. The wallpaper and paint color matched with the ornate sconces and unique sink create such a beautiful space.
Whether a small half bath or a larger primary bathroom, have a little fun with the bathroom design. I’m not sure which direction I’ll head in with our bathroom but you know that I’ll be sharing the whole project with you so stay tuned.
