The Project:
So, this project actually started about 2 years ago. I had this old table in my basement for the longest time and finally decided to pull it out one day to see what I could do with it.
I decided to take it apart and this was the first thing I made with the top two tiers. You can see this sweet cupcake stand project HERE.
I love it! The leftover bottom tier ended up in my basement again because as a true DIY’er/hoarder, I couldn’t seem to toss it. It ended up getting pretty beat up over time and I was surprised just how much when I went to dig it out for this project.
Needless to say it needed a lot of TLC. We had to glue the pieces back on and also fill the whole in. We used wood glue to fix the edges and the layers of laminate wood that make up the base. We clamped it and let the glue dry overnight.
Then we filled in the hole in the middle with wood filler. We used a wide putty knife to spread it out flat and let that dry overnight as well. It still had some cracks in it when it was dry so I went over that with some spackle.
Once the spackle was dry, I sanded it down with a palm sander in the middle and hand sanded the edges.
It was nice and smooth and ready for paint. I didn’t bother priming because I was using homemade chalk paint and wanted it to be fairly worn in spots.
Can you believe it?!? So much different, right? At this point I considered adding handles on this DIY tray but could not find the right thing. I think I may look for some small barn door handles at Brimfield but for now it stays as is. I also tried adding little “feet” but it just didn’t look right. I decided in the long run just to distress the edges and call it a day. Here she is all done…

This DIY tray came out so pretty and can be used for any season. It’ll be a great addition to my spring decor. You can see my full Spring Home Tour next week but until then, here’s a sneak peak.
Lots of robin’s egg blue, mixed metals and farmhouse charm so stay tuned. You can see last year’s tour HERE.
Thanks so much for stopping by today. Do you have any upcycle projects in the works? For some amazing inspiration, check out my creative friend’s projects below. 🙂
Happy DIY’ing!

I love both of these projects so much! For the tray I think I would add a lazy Susan hardware to it. It’s quite big and would really make a nice one for a large table. My table is round but 60” so too big to be reaching in the middle for things and this would look so nice on there. I have just seen one of these tables for sale so I need to start looking!
Thank you so much, Shirley! A lazy susan is a great idea!
Love your idea of repurposing a tiered table. Turned out great. Thank you for sharing with us at #HomeMattersParty .We would love to have you again next week.
Thank you!
Wow! I really love how you repurposed that little tiered table into two fabulous pieces. The tray is so pretty on your table!
Thanks so much for the DIY inspiration!
Thank you, Ashley!
Oh my gosh I love this tray, and the cute cupcake stand as well. Such cute project from an one old table. I think the tray is love as is and it really can be changed up so many ways depending on what you decide to display on it. So beautiful!
Thanks, Toni!
I love trays and to think you made these from a table! What a great upcycle. Love it. I already said that didn’t I?
Thank you, Debra!
Both ideas are brilliant! I’m so impressed and loooove the cupcake stand idea.
Thanks, Lora!
What a huge difference! I love the paint finish too!
I see those 3 tier tables a lot but never know what I would do with them. These are both great ideas! And I am super impressed with how well you were able to fix the trim around the base that has fallen off. Great job!
Thanks, Amanda! I think wood glue and spackle can fix just about anything 🙂
OMG I love this tray. It would be perfect in my house. HaHa! I can’t believe you made those awesome projects from that table. How cool is that? The white chalk paint with the distressing is my “go to” thing. So nice.
Thanks, Michelle! The white chalk paint and distressing is my favorite also. It’s just so classic country/farmhouse.
I love how you repurposed the tiered table into two new decor pieces for your home. I would have never thought the tray was so beat it up. It looks wonderful now.
Thank you, Erlene!
This tray is so pretty. I love the vignette you created as a centerpiece for your table as well. Love this project.
Thanks so much, Sue!
I love this tiered tray!! The cupcake stand is so cool! How great that you have two great projects out of one table.
Thanks, Michelle!
I love what you did with this tiered tray. It’s probably a lot more useful and practical as one level now. Visiting from Thrift Store Upcycle.
