Easy DIY Fall Centerpiece
This DIY Fall centerpiece is a super easy and inexpensive way to decorate for Fall.
I know I’ve mentioned this before but, I LOVE spray paint! You can paint just about anything with it: glass, plastic, wood, metal…and pumpkins.
When I found the faux flowers for this table centerpiece I really liked the darker or burnt orange petals on some of the flowers which also almost have a plum/dark red color accent. I knew I wanted to add gourds or pumpkins so I though why not give spray painting pumpkins a shot! I’ve painted faux and real pumpkins with craft paint before but never spray paint.
What you’ll need for this easy DIY Fall centerpiece:
- faux flowers
- floral foam
- wire cutters
- vessel of choice
- spray paint
- real or faux pumpkins
- tray or flat basket
Start with the pumpkins or gourds. Soak them in a mix of water and 20% bleach to make them last longer. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely.
Tape off the stems with masking tape.
Spray the gourds like you would anything else with small sprays back and forth. Be careful not to spray too much in one spot or it will pool and run down the side. More thin layers are better than one thick layer.
I chose this beautiful color called Claret Wine in Satin.
I recommend letting the pumpkins dry for at least and hour, In the mean time, start assembling the flower arrangement. Cut the bouquet apart or gather your faux stems. I picked these up at a thrift store but you can get something similar at Hobby Lobby or Amazon for under $20 on sale.
This bouquet was too tall for the vessel that I wanted to use it in so I cut it apart with wire cutters. This way, each stem is more versatile and I can use them in smaller groups as well.

I chose this old milk bucket as my vessel for this Fall floral centerpiece because I love the patina and the way it contrasts against the darker colors in the flowers. For other farmhouse fall centerpiece ideas, you could also use a basket, old ice bucket, crate, pitcher, milk bottle, tea pot etc.
I added some floral foam to the bottom…
and started by placing the same color flowers (darker orange) on opposite sides of the container to keep it balanced.
Then I plugged in the other colors here and there and tried to also vary height where I could.
When the pumpkins are dry. simply pull the masking tape off and they were ready to go.
How to set up your DIY Centerpiece.
The sky is the limit when it comes to setting up your Fall centerpiece and layering. First I used a black tray that we made out of an old board and some handles as a base.
Then I added some white plates to hold the gourds.
.
Then I added the spray painted gourds. They are such a beautiful contrast to the white plates and black tray.

This was super easy and done in no time. You could spray paint gourds and pumpkins in different sizes and create more of a layered effect or even use different colors. You can also use the colorful pumpkins and gourds in other vignettes.
Try a round tray, place the vessel in the middle and surround with pumpkins.
So many variations. Do you have one in mind for your home? I’d love to see it!
Happy DIY’ing!

I have some small white pumpkins from my front porch fall decor. For Thanksgiving I am going to spray them copper after seeing your centerpiece idea. Think I will mix them with some fall faux oak and maple branches and some faux sugared grapes and pears. Copper colored candles in glass votives scattered around the arrangement will complete the centerpiece. Now to find the right dishes and glasswear.
Hi Kathy! It sounds beautiful! I love the copper and I especially love the idea of the branches mixed it. Happy Holidays to you and your family!
