Easy DIY Thanksgiving Centerpiece & Table Setting
How to make an easy DIY Thanksgiving centerpiece that you can remove when it’s time for dinner.
So this year the holidays look a bit different and, unfortunately for many of us, there will not be as many people around our table as there usually are. That doesn’t mean it has to be boring, though. I’ve created a very simple, layered rustic Thanksgiving centerpiece to share with you today. What I love about is it’s inexpensive, you can re-use the pieces for different things when you’re done and you can simply remove the whole thing when it’s time to eat to make room for all of the yummy food.
What you’ll need for this simple table setting:
- A long tray
- A garland or faux greenery stems
- pine cones
- dried orange slices
- brass candlestick holders
- candles in same color story
- charger plates
- plates
- cloth napkins
To keep the centerpiece cohesive, I chose to use a very Fall color story of white, green, brown, gold and orange. Using one color story will give the centerpiece a more finished look.
How to set up a simple rustic Thanksgiving centerpiece.
- I started creating the Thanksgiving centerpiece by first placing the tray in the middle of the table. This can be any size tray. If you don’t have one large one, you can use two smaller ones.

2. Add in your greenery. I used a garland I found at Magnolia last year on sale. You can use multiple faux stems or a garland like this one.
It was a bit too long for my tray but I bent it at the ends and fastened it with floral wire.
3. Add the candlestick holders. I chose these gold ones I picked up at a thrift store.
4. Then start adding the medium size pieces like the larger pine cones and dried orange slices. You can see how I made those HERE.

Then tuck in small pieces in the nooks and crannies like the very small pine cones.

5. Then add the place settings…
I used gold chargers to go with the yellow candlesticks, simple white dinner plates and smaller plates with a bit of texture. White napkins are gathered with a simple wooden napkin ring.
6. Add yellow or gold candlesticks.
That’s it, your easy DIY Thanksgiving centerpiece is complete!
I love the way the brown from the pinecones ties in with the brown napkin rings and how the gold warms everything up. Really simple but really pretty.
The best part is you can remove the tray for dinner but keep two of the candles sticks.
This rustic Thanksgiving table decor is super easy and takes no time really at all. It’s easy to move when you eat and it’s made from stuff you can use again. Use the pinecones to decorate for Christmas and winter and the dried oranges slices can be added to a beautiful potpourri, wreath or garland.
I hope you enjoyed this Thanksgiving centerpiece idea and it inspired you to create something similar.
Happy Thanksgiving, friends! I hope you enjoy a wonderful day with your family!
