Fall Decorating Ideas for the Kitchen & Dining Room – Fall Home Tour Part 2
Keep things functional while celebrating the season with these simple fall decorating ideas for the kitchen.
Although I LOVE to decorate for fall, I didn’t want to go overboard with fall decor in the kitchen because, let’s face it, we actually use the kitchen. I would have liked to do a big display with the island covered in gorgeous pumpkins and lovely candles but the reality is that island will be covered in school papers, blogging notebooks, snacks for the kids and a host of other food related products at any given moment so my fall decorating ideas were a little different.
Instead, I opted for adding some simple fall decor here and there.
- Stick to the same color story you have used to decorate for the season in the rest of your home. I used the same autumn colors I used in the great room, office and family rooms to keep things flowing from room to room. You can see our fall home tour part 1 here.

2. Keep things flexible with pieces you can easily move especially with the fall decor for a kitchen island. I just used a simple cutting board and some old candlesticks but you could also use a tray or basket.
I also used a thrifted basket with a mix of pumpkins, faux Indian corn and a table runner on the kitchen table. Easy to move when it’s time to eat. 🙂
3. Use everyday items in your color story. I added small pops of orange with the kitchen towels and candles.
For fall decor for the kitchen counter, I simply added the faux flowers for the always easy, additional pop of color and mixed in a little faux pumpkin.
You can find my favorite faux florals and other fall decorations in our shop on Amazon.
4. Use simple white dishes. I kept all my favorite white dishes and simply added some orange berries which tie in with the items on the counter.
It helps make things easier to change from season to season as well.

I kept the same pieces on top of the armoire from our summer decor and added some bitter sweet from the yard. You can see a video on how I cut this on my Facebook page.
I love the texture it adds.
5. Add in a few real and faux pumpkins.
In the dining room, I added more of the bittersweet, mini pumpkins and pinecones to the dough bowl for a simple fall centerpiece.
So there are a few simple ways to add a touch of autumn to your home. As always, stick to a few colors and repeat them throughout the space for a cohesive look. Remember, it’s nice to look at pictures of kitchens decorated for fall on Pinterest to get ideas but keep the function of the rooms in your home and your families needs in mind. 🙂
