How to Decorate with Thrift Store Finds (Thrift Flips & Styling Tips)
Looking to update your home a bit but need to stick to a budget? One of the best ways to do that is decorating your home with thrift store finds. Here is my recent thrift store haul, how I upcycled the pieces and a few ideas on how to decorate with thrift store finds.
There are things that I always look for when I go thrifting and then sometimes things just shout at me “look at me, look at me! I have potential!” I have some of those things here in my recent thrift store haul, too. 🙂
One of my favorite things to look for is any type of art. It’s a great way to change things up and if you get tired of it, you can swap it out easy enough. Art can also be a great “jumping off point” or inspiration for a room or for a season. This was too cute and half off so it was just $1.49 and may just be a bit of an inspiration for my Fall decor.
I also look for frames. This one is so heavy and the patina is beautiful and it was only $2!!!
Look what happens when you combine the cute little barn picture and gold frame. I pulled out the greens and purples in the print to create a cute little vignette. 🙂
For this next one, I love the frame and textured mat on this but not the floral picture.
So I removed the original picture, took the layered mat apart and downloaded a digital print from Etsy. It literally took about 15 minutes.
Talk about trash to treasure.

You can never have too many candles. I got this giant three wick candle for and the holder for $2. I don’t do a lot of silver so I gave it a little makeover.
Here it is with a little paint treatment. I simply spray painted it gold and then brushed on a little brown craft paint.

I always look for faux flowers. I picked this bundle up for Fall.
You know I can’t resist books and these are beauties!!! They have the most beautiful black patina on the binding.
The pages are gold and the cover has a gorgeous purple tone which will be perfect for Fall.
I also got these funky bobbins that I have a plan for. They were $1 each.
This is how they are styled now…
So if you’re asking yourself how do you decorate with thrifted items, I would say be creative, maybe add in a little DIY project or craft paint to pull it all together. As long as you stick to a color story, mix in new pieces as well and remember to add a bit of texture, it will come together in no time.
Happy decorating and DIY’ing!

Colleen you have such a creative imagination! The thrift places in my area are mostly junk, but maybe I should go back & try to use my imagination on how to create beautiful items like yours. You are surely a inspiration!
Thank you SO much, Karen! I’m so glad you find inspiration here!! Let me know if you find something you love! 🙂
