I like orange. There, I said it. Those rich, warm red-orange tones you experience when the trees are changing up here in the Northeast are just beautiful!. I know some people will disagree with me. It’s not their cup of tea. They’ll say neutral is better, and it is in the right space. For me, it’s all about Rustic Fall Farmhouse decorating and that means warm, classic fall colors in our great room. Our family room is another story and I’ll share that room soon. π
So, for now, if you’re like me, and I’m hoping since you’re here, you are :), I say, it’s FALL gosh darn it, bring on the true fall colors!
Welcome!
For our fall front porch decor, we kept it simple with mums and pumpkins. The larger ones I picked up from a local store but the smaller ones are all from our garden. Instead of urns, you could use crates, baskets or crocks for an even more rustic look. You can see more Fall decorating ideas for outside here.
We just installed the new front door last weekend. We ordered it from Home Depot and we could not be HAPPIER! It’s got such great character and how cool is the speakeasy??
We kept the entryway simple and just added Fall touches with a few pumpkins. I updated the gallery wall a bit with some new pieces and pressed leaves in frames. I love a gallery wall because you can add anything you want to match your decor and your personality. Those black and white pictures prints are just pictures I took in our yard.
The dresser in the entryway is super simple with an old chicken feeder I picked up at Brimfield filled with bowl filler, some old pot pourri I’ve had and I mixed in some pine cones from our yard to stretch it a little further. The amber bottle is from Target.

I use the same Fall throw pillows every year and usually pick up one new one. I love the colors in the lumbar pillow and used it as inspiration to pull out a bit more gold tones this year.

You can find all of my FAVORITE FALL DECOR ITEMS on AMAZON here.
The shelf above the sofa is covered in rustic fall decor and thrift store finds. I picked up each candlestick holder for less than $3 and that mirror was only $1! It was a muted brown when I got it but after a coat of paint, it’s a nice farmhouse touch. The glass jar is from Michaels on sale.
Here’s another farmhouse fall decor DIY with the pressed leaf in the pretty frame.
Fall decor farmhouse style… I picked up this cute wooden stool at a local thrift store for $3. It was a muted brown and I gave it a black “wash” with a dry paint brush to make it look older. It fits perfectly next to the chair and plays off the handle of the barn door.
I always like layering the mantel and including books. The browns and creams are so pretty mixed in with the blue gray of the stone.
Why not incorporate some apple themes into your rustic fall farmhouse decorating plan? We picked up this old apple basket at a barn sale and found it the perfect home perched up on top of the armoire.
Have you ever seen decor or art out at a store or online and thought I really like it but I wish it was bigger, a different color etc.? My husband brought home this metal tree that he picked up for me but I wasn’t sure what to do with it until we found part of an old hot tub cover at a friends house. Random, right?? Once I gave it a coat of white paint, it makes the perfect back drop for the gray metal.
Here’s a view to the room off of the great room heading into our TV room or den. When decorating shelves for different seasons, I try to keep the basics like the little white pitchers and wood tones and then add seasonal elements like the pumpkins. I’m loving the simplicity of the black and white and can already see how I can mix in my Christmas decor.
So by mixing in everyday decor items with vintage pieces and doing some simple DIY projects, you can not only stretch your decorating dollar but you can also make it easier on yourself when deciding how you want to decorate. Just remember to stay true to your own style. π
I hope you found some inspiration for Fall decorating today. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Happy DIY’ing!

Vignettes. I LOVE arranging vignettes. I even have a board on Pinterest so I can save interesting ones. Yours are always perfect. Thanks or all your ideas!
Thank you so much, Donna!! Not only for such kind words but for taking the time to tell me! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate it! π
First time I commented but want to ask about your wood stove. Do you use it? We have a large stove set in our fireplace in our family room. We no longer use it and I incorporate it into our decor with seasonal changes. Have thought of removing it but that would be a major job. The fireplace is functional . Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Love your decorating.
Hi Kathy! Yes, we heat our house mostly with the wood stove. It’s super cost effective for us because we have the wood from our property to burn. If you are thinking about removing your stove, that’s a tough one. If you would get more use out of your fireplace and enjoy the space more, I say go for it. If it’s too costly to remove and you’re happy to incorporate it into your decor like you have been, keep doing what you’re doing. π
Thanks so much for following along!

Thank you so much, KariAnne!
As usual you are an inspiration. Question- Where and how do you store all your treasures for the changing decor you use?
Thank you so much!! I sort all of my seasonal things into plastic bins in the basement where my husband built some shelves for me. I like to keep things labeled with plastic sleeves on the outside so I know quickly what is in them. For the everyday things like candlestick holders and pitchers etc, I took a small nook at the bottom of our basement stairs (so it’s easily accessible) and we added some shelves there as well. I also use half of our TV stand for storing things. π
Have a wonderful weekend!
