Super Easy DIY Fall Centerpiece (and Quick!)
Want to create a centerpiece that looks good all season long? Here’s a quick and easy DIY fall centerpiece that you can do in no time.
I love simple projects and when you can make it inexpensive, it’s even better. You can tailor this to your style and color scheme and either keep it super simple or add in tons of layers for a more rustic fall centerpiece.
Supplies for this easy, DIY Fall centerpiece:
- faux pumpkins/gourds
- craft paint
- paint brush
- baking soda or plaster of Paris
- kitchen towel, table runner, table runner
- Basket, tray or Basket
I had a couple of these cute little pumpkins on hand and I also picked up a few at the thrift store. I wanted to create a neutral, monochromatic look so I used an off white paint on all of them but you could do this in multiple colors if that is the look you want.
Steps to create your fall centerpiece:
- Clean the faux pumpkins with a wet paper towel to remove any residue and make sure they are dry. If they are really dirty, use soap and water.
2. Lay them on newspaper or something to protect the table from getting paint on it.
3. Make your paint mixture. Mix a 1/4 cup of baking soda in with a bit of warm water. The amount of water will vary depending on how much texture you want your paint to have. Make it thicker to get more texture. Once it’s mixed mixed thoroughly, add in your paint a little at a time until you get the consistency you want.

4. Paint the pumpkins with a first coat and let them dry. You’ll start to see the texture right away.

6. Let it dry thoroughly and turn each one over to touch up the spots where it was laying flat. At this point you can also use craft paint to add a bit of shadows to the ridges or edges.
You can also touch up the stems where you may have gotten paint on them or make them look a bit more realistic. I’ve also seen where people have removed the faux stem and added in a stick instead to look like a real stem.
7. Once everything is completely dry, grab your bowl, tray or basket. A round basket is perfect for fall centerpieces for round tables.
8. Lay the towel (or in my case, a table runner I picked up at Target) in the basket so it hangs off the sides just a bit.
9. Layer in your pumpkins staring with the big ones first and then place the smaller ones in between and on top. I also added in some faux Indian corn, dried flowers and pinecones for easy fall table decor.
This is a super easy centerpiece that can be created in less than an hour total and will last all season and even season to season! If you’re really short on time you can skip the painting part and use real pumpkins in the color of your choice.
You can make this DIY fall centerpiece for a dining table or for the kitchen table or counter and when the season is over, you can use the pieces for something else. 🙂
Happy DIY’ing!
