The Best Before and After Painted Furniture Makeover Ideas
Create something beautiful and unique for your home with these amazing before and after painted furniture makeover ideas.
I love rescuing old pieces of furniture. Some I found at yard sales, some thrift shops and some were given to me by a friend who saved them from the dumpster. Some require a large amount of work and some are easier and require a little paint, but the satisfaction of finishing one of these projects is worth it in the end when you know you created something beautiful. Here are some of the best Before and After Painted Furniture Makeover ideas to inspire you.
Dresser makeover ideas.
Chalk paint is my go to when it comes to furniture makeovers because it is really forgiving on roughed up surfaces. Many of the pieces of antique furniture that I work on are in poor condition with scratches and dents and the original finish has worn off in many areas and is uneven. I tried milk paint once and really didn’t like final look when it dried. It may have been just the color so it’s on my list to try again.
I got this antique dresser at a thrift store. She was a beast! Quite a few coats of chalk paint, some airing out and new hardware make all the difference. You can see the full antique dresser makeover here.

This one was also in rough shape and quite a bit of work but an update with paint and stain made all the difference. I like the two tone look with the black.

One of my all time furniture transformations is this old dining room hutch. This before and after painted furniture makeover is unbelievable.

This vintage hutch had good bones but just wasn’t the right style. It is the perfect fit for the corner of our dining room. TIP: make sure to bring a measuring tape with you and measurements of a space you are looking to fill so you get just the right fit.

Old cabinet makeover ideas.
I picked up this old cabinet at a garage sale for $40. It required quite a few coats of paint but was so worth it in the long run! A little bit of paint can go a long way!
One of our best furniture makeover ideas was this old beat up workbench given to us by a friend. It had definitely seen better days by the time we got it but after a REALLY GOOD cleaning, she was ready to go. We painted it the prettiest shade of blue called Mountain Laurel from Benjamin Moore.
