10 Quick & Easy Ways to Refresh Your Bedroom Décor
How to Refresh Your Bedroom Décor Quickly and On Budget
Your bedroom should be a cozy retreat. Sometimes just a small change can make a big difference and give the whole space a fresh new feel. I’m sharing a few of my favorite quick and budget-friendly ways to refresh your bedroom—most of which you can do in a weekend!

1. Swap Your Bedding and/or Pillows
Your bed is the focal point of the room. Swapping out sheets, duvet covers, or throw pillows instantly shifts the mood.
-
Choose a new color palette. If you’ve been into neutral tones, try adding bit more color, especially in spring & summer. I added a new quilt we thrifted at a garage sale for $20 and brought in a couple of throw pillows I had in a new shade of blue.
-
Mix textures. Pair crisp cotton sheets with a chunky knit throw or vintage quilt to layer interest.
-
Add two to three accent pillows. Look for thrifted treasures or budget picks—think embroidered linen or ticking-stripe covers—for a curated, farmhouse vibe.

2. Rearrange Your Furniture
Changing the layout can open traffic flow, improve natural light, and reveal hidden corners perfect for styling.
- Float the bed away from the wall. Centering your bed can make the room feel larger.
- Angle a chair or bench. Create a cozy reading nook near a window or lamp.

- Repurpose pieces from another room. A small console from the entryway can double as a nightstand, bringing new charm. We traded out the table nightstands for washstands. We thrifted one and I painted it and the other we swapped from our family room.
3. Refresh Wall Art and Accessories
Your walls tell a story. Swapping frames or gallery arrangements is like giving your room a mini facelift.
-
Gallery wall remix. Swap in botanical prints, kids’ artwork, or vintage postcards you’ve collected. I added a couple of new prints to the gallery above our bed.

-
Lean a statement piece. Instead of hanging, lean a large mirror or framed art on the floor against the wall for a casual, layered look.
-
DIY a swap. Paint inexpensive frames in a new finish—think chalk-painted black or gold Rub n Buff —to transform existing art.
4. Add Living Greenery/Flowers
Plants purify air, soften edges, and bring life to any space—with minimal effort.
-
Start small. A single potted fern or peperomia on your dresser adds instant energy.
-
Hang a macramé planter. A trailing pothos in a hanging planter fills vertical space in seconds.
-
Use cut branches or flowers. Tulips or forsythia branches in a simple glass jar are an easy way to tie in seasonal color.
These hydrangeas are from our yard. I love the pop of pink against the green.

If you are a not so green thumb like me, use faux. They still make the space feel lighter and airy and don’t require any attention. 🙂

5. Update Your Lighting
Another way to refresh your bedroom decor is to update your lighting. Lighting sets the mood—swap harsh overhead bulbs for soft, layered illumination.
-
Switch to warm LED bulbs. Look for bulbs labeled 2700K for a cozy glow.
-
Add a battery operated wall sconce. No hardwiring needed—simply mount it on the wall, and you’ve got ambient light for reading. You can find our sconces on Amazon here.

-
Thrift new lamps. I got the lamps on our nightstands at a thrift store for $7 each and added a new shade.
-
Add fairy lights: Drape fairy lights around a headboard or window for whimsical, budget-friendly ambiance.

6. Paint an Accent Wall or Refresh Trim
A fresh coat of paint can transform a room overnight.
-
Choose one wall. An accent wall in a moody charcoal or soft sage draws the eye without overwhelming the space.

-
Whitewash or limewash. For a farmhouse-chic vibe, whitewash old wood planks or brick.
-
Update trim and doors. Dings and chips happen. Even a fresh coat of bright white on baseboards and door frames sharpens the entire room.

7. Shop Your Home
You’ve already got treasures—just give them a new purpose.
-
Use a tray from the kitchen. Corral candles and jewelry on your dresser. I brought in the tray from the great room to style on the upholstered storage bench.
-
Repurpose a ladder. Lean an old wooden ladder for hanging throws or fairy lights.
-
Rotate décor seasonally. Store summer pieces in a basket and swap in chunky wool throws for fall and winter.

8. Accessorize with Baskets and Textiles
Baskets and rugs add warmth, texture, and storage—plus they’re easy to layer.
-
Layer a small rug. A jute or braided rug underfoot softens hardwood floors.
-
Group baskets. Use woven baskets for extra blankets or laundry; they’re functional décor.
-
Introduce a pouf or floor cushion. Great for extra seating and adds a boho-chic touch.

9. Upgrade Hardware and Switch Plates
These small details are surprisingly impactful—and quick to swap out.
-
New drawer pulls. Swap builder-grade pulls for vintage brass or matte black knobs.

-
Switch plate covers. A simple upgrade to linen or ceramic covers elevates your light switches.
-
Outlet covers. Even matching your covers to your wall color keeps things cohesive.

10. Declutter and Organize
A tidy room feels more spacious and peaceful, and decluttering is the quickest refresh of all.
-
Clear your surfaces. Edit nightstands and dressers down to just a few favorites.
-
Use drawer dividers. Keep socks, jewelry, and scarves neatly organized.
-
Donate or tuck away. Anything you haven’t used in six months? Time to pass it along or store it elsewhere.

Bonus: Bring in some DIY projects.
I thrifted this chair for $5 and gave it a makeover. It needed some wood filler in some of the holes, a good sanding and some paint. It looks super cute in the corner and adds a bit of a cottage feel.
