How to Decorate Your Bedroom for Christmas: Cozy, Festive & Timeless Ideas
When it comes to holiday decorating, we often focus on the living room, kitchen, or front porch—but your bedroom deserves a little Christmas magic, too! In this post, I’m sharing how I brought holiday charm into our bedroom using cozy textures, greenery, vintage finds, and a few thrifted treasures. Whether you want to go all out or just add a hint of holiday spirit, these Christmas bedroom decorating ideas will help you create a bedroom that’s as peaceful as it is festive.
1. Dress the Bed with Seasonal Style
Your bed is the focal point, so it’s a great place to start. I swapped out our usual bedding for a quilt with warm, traditional Christmas colors, then layered in an olive green throw and a bold red pillow with a reindeer motif for a classic pop of Christmas cheer.

Quick tip: Stick to 2-3 accent colors to keep it cohesive. Here, red and green shine against the neutral backdrop.

2. Add Greenery and Candlelight for Instant Warmth
Nothing says Christmas like fresh (or faux) greens. A simple white pitcher filled with pine branches, berries, or cedar clippings adds natural texture and color. I prefer faux because it’s less mess, so on each nightstand, I added a bit of greenery with faux branches. I also love using mini trees. You can see a full post on how to decorate with mini trees here.

3. Refresh Your Gallery Wall with Subtle Holiday Touches
I didn’t overhaul our entire wall gallery—I just layered in a few seasonal pieces, like a framed deer head and a winter print.
On the dresser, I added some more greenery in a simple, classic white pitcher.

4. Style a Holiday Mantel (If You Have One!) or a Shelf
I kept it super simple with the fireplace with a pretty wooden mirror. I love the warmth of the wood tone with the green brush trees. The books and vintage candlesticks feel so classic and I love the simplicity of it all put together. The key is symmetry and natural texture—nothing too fussy.

A faux mantel or shelf behind the bed (like our green ledge) offers the same styling opportunity. Get tips on how to style a mantel here.

Mini decor tip: Even a dresser top or shelf can act as a “mantel” when styled for the season.

5. Cozy Up with Layers and Texture
A textured throw draped on the end of the bed or armchair invites you to snuggle up. I added a small knit footstool and chenille throw to create that layered, lived-in holiday feel.

Color cue: Stick to soft, wintry tones—moss green, ivory, muted gold—for a more timeless look.

6. Decorate with Vintage & Thrifted Finds
Many of the items in this space came from thrift stores, antique shops, and yard sales—from the red stool to the brass candle holders. To me, collected pieces add so much character and create a more curated look over time. Plus they are great for holidays and every day.

Try This: Group vintage books with a bottle brush tree on top and add a ribbon around the stack for an instant holiday moment or add ribbon to the light fixtures.

7. Don’t Forget the Little Touches
Here are a few final festive details to sprinkle around your bedroom:
-
A bowl of ornaments on your dresser
-
A festive mug on the nightstand
-
Holiday-scented candles
-
A basket of wrapped faux presents under a bench or tree
-
A small wreath hung from a mirror or above the bed
