It’s Thrift Store Thursday!
So I know I’m calling these cake stands but they really are so much more. You can use them for any dessert, small hors d’oeuvres or snacks or just displaying pretty things for each season. they’re a super easy and quick project that will look so cute in your kitchen, is a fraction of the cost of new ones and, since you are making your own DIY cake plate stand, they can be totally unique.

What you need…
- Thrift store plate or charger
- Candlestick holders
- Gorilla Glue
- Craft paint or spray paint
- Paint brush
- Sandpaper
- Optional – glass cake dome
I got all of this stuff at a couple different thrift stores for under $10 total. The plate with the peaches was a gift. 🙂
What are the steps to make your own DIY cake plate stand?
1. Make sure everything is clean.
2. Start by painting the candlestick holders. I wanted everything on two of the cake stands to be white so I painted the wooden candlestick holder and the smaller plastic one with with Rusto-Oleum paint & primer spray paint in Heirloom White satin finish.
After:
You can also use craft paint but I wanted more of a sheen to match the sheen on the plates. If you wanted a more matte finish you could use matte spray paint or simply mix a little bit of baking soda in warm water and then add some craft paint to it in a small container.
3. Let the candlestick holder dry thoroughly.

4. Sand the bottom of the plates and the top of the candlestick holders with 120 grit sandpaper to give the glue something to really stick to.
5. Apply the Gorilla glue to the top of the candlestick holders.
6. Turn the plate upside down so the bottom is facing up.
7. Glue the candlestick holder to the plate in the center.

Not bad for $3 worth of thrift store finds…
These DIY cake plate stands were literally one of the easiest projects I think I’ve ever done. You could do all different sizes in matching colors for a super cute Easter or Mother’s Day dessert table or any holiday or a DIY cupcake stand for a Birthday. Actually, why wait for a holiday when you can make any day more special?
