5 Tips for Decorating for Fall on a Budget
A little planning and simple changes can help when decorating for Fall on a budget.

Changing up your decor for each season shouldn’t break the bank. I wrote a post a while back on 20 ways to decorate for Christmas on a budget and while most of those apply to Fall as well, here are 5 more tips for saving money when you’re decorating for fall on a budget.

Go with the Faux!
Does it really matter if you say faux or fake? Either way, real pumpkins can be super expensive and can really add up year after year. You can find very real looking pumpkins at places like Walmart, Michaels, or HomeGoods. You can get so many different colors and sizes. If you want to go with a new color palette the next year, you can just paint them. *If you paint faux pumpkins, make sure they are not porous like styrofoam. They won’t take the paint as well and can end up looking not so good.
I picked up these cute little fabric pumpkins in the Dollar Spot at Target.
This goes for faux floral as well. No need to water and you can use them year after year. Just make sure you store everything neatly so it lasts. Faux get about it! Faux sho! Haha, ok, enough.
I picked these up at Michaels.
* You can make these go even further by buying bunches and cutting them apart with wire cutters.
2. Use throw pillow covers.
I love the personality throw pillows can add to a space. Although you can find some inexpensive ones, go with a pillow cover instead. They are less expensive and are easier to store because you can simply roll them up and tuck them in a drawer or bin . You simply swap them out with the same insert over and over. Here are some super cute ones from Amazon.

3. Keep your other throw pillows and throw blankets neutral.
So the idea is not to change your decor dramatically. Inexpensive everyday neutral throw blankets and throw pillows/covers can go a long way when you mix in a pop of color or a few seasonal pieces. Having a neutral foundation to build on will make it easier to transition from one season to the next.

4. Double duty decor.
I could reference a “Friends” episode here. If you know which one I’m talking about, let me know in the comments. 🙂
Raid your pantry. Dried beans or corn can make a nice bowl filler with a candle in the middle. Apples in a wooden bowl on your counter can be an easy and inexpensive fall centerpiece.
Or popcorn:
5. Bring the outdoors in.
It’s free! It doesn’t get much better than that when decorating for fall on a budget. This is a repeat from one of the tips on the Christmas post but in a different way. Why not go old school and press some beautiful leaves. You can find different ways to do this on Pinterest but I simply found these in our yard, pressed them between wax paper for about 3-4 days under a heavy book. When they were dry, I put them in pretty frames. I’m not super concerned if they’ll last until next year. I can always to it again.
Here I mixed them in with the collage in the entryway. I like the way the yellow in the leaves plays off of the yellow in the “4” sign. You can see the black and white photo project here.
So I also did these cute fern leaves. Can you see how I will be using it for Christmas? 🙂
Do you have a garden. Plant pumpkins and gourds!
How about dried flowers like hydrangeas?
What about using birch logs in a nice basket or tin?
Don’t forget, branches acorns and pine cones!
Bonus
Free Printables. This one is from the Christmas post as well but definitely bears repeating! Print it out and frame it in an inexpensive frame. Use the same frame from season to season. Done and Done. 🙂
