11 Easy Kitchen Updates You Can Do This Weekend
11 Easy Kitchen Updates You Can Do This Weekend
Looking to refresh your kitchen without investing in a costly renovation? You’re in luck! These 11 easy kitchen updates can be completed this weekend, giving your space a fresh look quickly and affordably.
1. Paint Your Cabinets
I know this sounds daunting, but painting your kitchen cabinets is one of the best ways to transform your kitchen’s look. We did this when we updated our kitchen a few years ago and while it takes a bit of planning, definitely some preparation and some time, it is so worth the effort.
I highly recommend Benjamin Moore Advance self leveling cabinet paint. We removed all of the cabinet doors and used a paint sprayer for those and I rolled out the boxes or used a brush where necessary. They came out great!

2. Upgrade Hardware
Swapping outdated hardware for new knobs and pulls instantly elevates your cabinets. There are so many styles and finishes to choose from.
You can find my favorite hardware on Amazon here.

TIP: You can also save money by spray painting the hardware you currently have.
3. Install Open Shelving
I’ll be honest, you either love this idea or you don’t. Replace a few upper cabinets with open shelving to display dishes, glasses, and decorative pieces can create an airy feel and adds personality to your kitchen.
It can look really pretty but does take away some storage space and you’ll have to stay on top of the dust.

4. Refresh Your Backsplash
Peel-and-stick tiles or painting your existing backsplash can drastically change your kitchen’s aesthetic.
You can also use beadboard but you’ll want to use a polyurethane that can be wiped down when you have spills.

Did you know you can paint tile? Choose colors and patterns that complement your countertops and cabinetry.

5. Update Lighting Fixtures
Swap outdated lighting with something a bit more up to date or that adds a bit more character. Layered lighting, including under-cabinet lights and pendant lights can also help create a new look while also being functional.

6. Replace Your Faucet
A new faucet can feel like a piece of jewelry and really make a statement in your kitchen. The sky is the limit for this as you can go with something super simple or really flashy. Be careful not to go too trendy or you’ll be replacing it before you know it.

7. Add a Fresh Coat of Paint
I know this seems obvious but painting your walls is a quick way to brighten and modernize your kitchen. It’s something that requires a bit more time and work but it’s so worth it.
You can go with something neutral like this…

Or try something different.

Or really go for it with something like this.

8. Create an Accent Wall
An accent wall with beadboard, wallpaper, or a contrasting paint color adds visual interest and personality. You can also create an accent wall that is more temporary with things like cutting boards or artwork. You can see a whole post on displaying cutting boards in your kitchen here.

You can also add a plate rack like this one.

9. Organize and Declutter
Invest in stylish storage solutions like clear jars, drawer dividers, and baskets to streamline your kitchen. Organization instantly makes your space feel more calm.
Update Window Treatments
Switch out heavy curtains for sleek roman shades or minimalistic blinds. New window treatments can brighten your kitchen, adding a polished finishing touch.

11. Add a Kitchen Rug
A stylish and durable kitchen rug can instantly warm up your space, provide comfort underfoot, and protect your floors. Choose a design that complements your kitchen decor to tie the room together.

You can find my favorite kitchen rugs on Amazon here. (many of these are washable!)
With these easy weekend kitchen updates, you’ll create a beautifully refreshed space without the stress and expense of a full renovation. Sometimes changing just one of these things can make a big difference.
Happy decorating!
