Relaxed Summer Home Tour with Vintage Touches
Hey everyone! I’m finally starting to enjoy the slow down of summer now and I’m really feeling the need to simplify things a bit. We’re spending more days relaxing and less running around. More dinners on paper plates out on the deck and less fuss. I kind of felt that way about decorating, too, so I took our summer style in a different direction this year. I used lots of flowers, of course, shades of white and my favorite vintage pieces. I’m loving it and I hope you love this relaxed summer home tour, too. 🙂
In the foyer, we recently added this bench. I love the contrast of the dark wood and white. The woven baskets and rope ball on the bottom add just a bit of texture.
In the great room…
I love these old vintage fans. The big one actually works!

One of my favorite finds is this dresser which I picked up at the Salvation Army for $35. The chicken feeder, we got at Brimfield fits perfectly. It looks so pretty filled with different shades of white.
For the mantel, I always like to add a focal point in the center. I happened to find 5 old doors at at garage sale a few weeks ago for just $10 each. We cut one down and used it for the back drop. I just sanded it down a bit and highlighted some of the wood with a bit of stain.

I like using glass in the summer because it’s so light and airy and I love the way it simplifies things with the added greens. Of course, I had to add some books and the candle holder on the left was a recent DIY project. The deer antler adds to the neutral colors.
Our DIY coffee table has a simple woven tray with flowers.
The shelf above the sectional is pretty simple, too. A simple wreath hung inside the tobacco basket adds a light touch and I love how it contrasts with the beautiful orange patina on the flower pots.
I added a few pops of color with the throw pillows.
In the kitchen and dining room I added a few touches of flowers but kept it pretty clean and simple.
In the dining room I just added an old tulip crate to the table to hold the pitcher with flowers.
I know this isn’t part of the home tour but how cute is this bunny having an evening snack out our kitchen window?
It’s amazing what you can see if you just slow down and take the time to look. 😉
So that’s it. Everyday decor like white pitchers and candlestick holders mixed with vintage pieces and a few easy DIY projects makes for simple summer decor. I hope you enjoyed this relaxed summer home tour! Thanks for spending some of your time with me!
Happy DIYing!

Hi Colleen,
I just came across your site and fell in love with the numbers on your wall. I have the perfect place in my house on a wall that has been neglected for years. Could you tell me where you got them?
Mary
Hi Mary! I believe I got those at Antiquefarmhouse.com but it was some time ago. Thank so much for stopping by!!
Hi Collen, I love your house. It looks very relaxing and inviting. I was hoping you could give me the dimensions of the white shelf above your sofa. I love it and want to make one similar for my living room. I love how you can change out the decor with the seasons. I have the corners already. They have been laying around for awhile now. When I saw the shelf I knew immediately that’s what I could do with them. Anyway , I enjoy your posts and thanks in advance. Tammy
Thank you, Tammy! The shelf was super easy to make. The back board is 54″long and 12 wide and the shelf is 54″ long by 8″ wide. Have fun with your project and enjoy your new shelf 🙂
Your home is so cozy and inviting, Colleen! Your use of white pitchers is so lovely. I am also partial to white pitchers and glass displays in the summer months. Thanks for sharing your home and your creative ideas.
Thank you, Marion!
