- I always recommend looking for Christmas decor at thrift stores year round. I picked up this red Santa at the Salvation Army for $5 and the little mini tree for $2. It’s never too early to start looking. Look for faux greenery and mini trees that you can use year after year in different ways.
2. Using everyday items like books and candles go a long way. Check thrift stores for both. I picked this gold candlestick up for like $2.

3. Use the same pillows every year. A great way to save money is by using interchangeable pillow COVERS which are also easier to store.

4. Frame a gift bag.
An easy rustic decoration to make was this framed Christmas tree on the mantel. It’s just a gift bag I cut apart and framed.
I made a couple of these because they took no time at all. I purchased the frames at a thrift store with the mats in them. I simply cut the picture out on the front of the gift bag, pulled the handles off and then taped the picture to the mat.
Super easy but super cute. Talk about easy rustic Christmas home decor ideas!
5. Make your own chalkboards. These chalkboards were a rustic Christmas decor project with thrift store frames. We picked up a 4 x 8 chalkboard from Home Depot for about $11 and cut it in sizes to match the frames.
You can see the textured pot project HERE.
6. BUY Christmas wrapping paper at the end of the season.
Plan ahead and save money by picking up your wrapping paper on sale/clearance after the end of the season in coordinating colors to match your decor for next year.
7. Make DIY “snow globes”.
I picked up these glass jars on sale or thrift stores and added a bit of bath salt. Then I added bottle brush trees and dollar store ornaments.

8. Frame pretty scrapbook paper.
I found this jingle bells paper and cut out the middle and framed it. Then simply add a bell. You can see the full project HERE.
9. Use thrift store baskets.
These I just stacked together for a different look and added a wooden bowl with a candle at the top.
10. Make your own Farmhouse Christmas signs.
Use stencils and scrap wood to create your own signs or embellish crates.

11. Use free printables found on line.
This print in the basket hung on the wall is a vintage black and white advertisement for ornaments.
