Spring Mantel Decorating Ideas
Three ways to decorate a Spring mantel by mixing farmhouse pieces for different looks.
Hey everyone! I’m getting my Spring decor on this week whether Mother Nature likes it or not! 🙂 It’s actually snowing as I’m typing this. I’ve decided to just block it out and picture green grass, flowers and budding leaves on the trees. Who’s with me??
So today, I’m sharing not one but three Spring mantel decorating ideas. Sometimes I know exactly what I want to do but this time I had a few things in my mind so I decided to try each one to see which I liked best. I knew one thing that would be consistent and that is the mini barn door we made last year. I just love the colors and how it anchors the other pieces on the mantel so well.
Spring Mantel from last year…
I really like the way the shades of light blue pop off the stone. This year, I started with my go to white pitchers. I like to start with the bigger pieces and then fill in around the edges. I approach the mantel the same way I approach shelves and you can find my 10 tips for decorating shelves here.
I also have some faux white flowers I wanted to use because what says Spring more than white flowers? I added in some books as usual, a few other Spring touches.
Spring mantel decor option #1.
I like the white against the brown tones of the mantel and the stone but I wasn’t really loving it. It just felt kind of flat. I know it needs a wreath or something in the middle but I didn’t want to mess to much with the door itself if I didn’t love the rest . From the floor you can see the bird house pretty well but from this angle, it blends right in with the stone. I thought this one was a bit bare and OK, but my husband liked it.

Spring mantel Option #2.
For the next one, I was kind of feeling even more Fixer Upper-y than usual so I thought I would try some blue glass and faux Eucalyptus. I had a large blue glass vase and some smaller ones that I made with spray paint last summer which you can see here.
So I knew this one wasn’t going to work because the green of the faux branches blended in too much with the stone. I could have added the white flowers but I just wasn’t feelin’ it. I really like the elements together though, so don’t be surprised if you see them pop up in the other rooms in their own little vignette in other Spring decor.

For the last Spring Mantel combination, I used the white pitchers again and the candlestick holders from before but this time with a different flower and a different placement. I varied the heights a bit more and added more green than in version #1. I liked this one right away and decided to add the picture to the middle instead of a wreath to do something a bit different.
Spring mantel decor option #3.
Winner, winner, chicken dinner! I like the variation in color and the warmth the books add. It’s not crazy busy but just enough. I’ll probably tweak this just a bit once I live with it for a few days but it’s definitely my favorite. I’ll share the final version in my Spring home tour next week :).
Whether it’s decorating a mantel for Spring or any season, it’s amazing what different looks you can achieve from simple changes and mixing different pieces together. Try one look and then take a step back and change it up until you find something you love.
Do you have a go to piece or a favorite way of decorating? Which one of these was your favorite?
Happy DIY’ing!

Thanks so much, Laura. Will do!
Love your faux barn door! It’s perfect for mantle decor. I like the one with the blue bottles which feel springy to me. Old man winter has to leave soon, he simply must! Thanks for sharing with us at Merry Monday. Hope to see you next week. Happy Spring!
These are great ideas! I pinned for later, and I also pinned the barn door post. I can’t wait to make it!
Thanks so much, Cherryl! It was definitely a fun project and versatile, too. In the fall, I turn it around and use the wood side. The browns look so pretty with the fall colors 🙂
Morning Colleen,
All your mantles were very pretty, but my fav is the 3rd one, probably cause I love flowers
especially in the Spring………. Enjoyed your post…..I love seeing different ways of doing things that you don’t have to change everything just a few things and you have a whole
new look. Thanks!
