Tickled Pink – Spring Decorating Ideas
How to decorate for spring – where to find inspiration and how to create your own unique look.
Hello Friends & happy Spring! It amazes me sometimes how the most random thing can be the inspiration when decorating a room or for a season. The inspiration for our Spring decor this year came in the form of a small piece of art I spotted at a thrift store several months ago. The many beautiful shades of pink caught my eye and, although it wasn’t my normal style, I was drawn to it. This was my inspiration for our Spring decorating ideas and our eclectic Spring home tour.
I tried to use it as it was with the gold frame but it just wasn’t working. It felt too formal so I pulled out the black craft paint, painted the frame and instantly loved it with the pink.
I usually start our home tours at the beginning or at the front door in our foyer but this one is a bit different. I’m starting in our Den and the painted hutch where this pretty little lady now lives.
I grabbed a similar type of picture after that and painted it’s frame black as well. Then I pulled in other black accessories and black and white checked pillows. I love the way the pink and black pop off the gray of the shelf.
UPDATE: I made the embroidery hoop wreaths and you can see that easy spring diy project here.

Heading into the great room I used more green/white and brown with pink mixed in here and there.
The white shelf above the sectional pops with the brown against the tan walls and the pink softens it a bit as it ties into the other room. I love the patina of this old freezer door with the antique hardware and the way this unexpected piece acts as a focal point and adds character.

The fireplace got a glass and green treatment with some old bottles I have picked up here and there at thrift stores for 1-3$ . I’ve used the faux white flowers for a few years and in different vessels each year for a new look.
Tip: You can stretch your decorating dollar by cutting faux stems apart to use them in different size jars or vases.
The round tobacco basket was a gift from my husband for my Birthday. 🙂

When is an old army bag not an army bag? When you use it for a vase!

The entry has a mix of brown black and white. I took down the old metal numbers that were there from our last entry makeover and gave it a fresh look with a new mini gallery wall. I used pieces I already had on hand like the metal number and the black and white pictures I took in our yard. You can see the piano bench makeover here.

I picked up this old metal factory bin on our last trip to Brimfield. I like the industrial feel mixed in with the soft spring colors.
Spring decorating doesn’t necessarily have to include lot of traditional Spring decor such as nests and eggs. I opted for simple pastels and florals this year. That way, I can carry this through summer with just a few changes.
I hope you enjoyed this Spring home tour and found some ideas for Spring decorating. Rembember, when you’re decorating your home for spring, or any season, always do what makes you happy. What do you use to start your seasonal decor? Do you have a favorite piece you use every year or do you opt for different looks?
Whatever your inspiration, happy Spring and happy DIY’ing!

The fireplace is my favorite part of this! All the different textures together look so interesting and really draw the eye. Gorgeous work!
Thank you so much! It’s my favorite, too. 🙂
Your home looks lovely with its spring touches, Colleen! And I agree… black paint can be amazing… especially on frames! Thanks for sharing at Homestyle Gathering!

Thank you so much, Kim!
Colleen,
Happy Spring to you!!!! I love everything you did. The pink just pops with the brown, black theme. Really springy (not a word)!!!! I love the mantle with the tobacco basket. I like that it is open weave. Your home is beautiful and I’m so glad I found your blog site. If I may ask, what is the piece up the staircase? I couldn’t tell if it is a picture or cotton in a basket. I love it; like I said, you did so many beautiful vignettes all over your home. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Jean! Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m so glad you like everything. The piece at the top of the stairs is an old army bag that I tacked on a wood backdrop.
